Hi Martin and colleagues -
Thanks for sharing this and validating how I’ve personally been feeling for the past few days.
I am actually in search of a gun control advocacy group that I can join. I listened to Trump’s message yesterday and most glaring to me was that he didn’t mention the word “gun” in his statement - like access to guns has nothing to do with what happened when as pediatricians we know that access to weapons is something we all need to screen for in our mental health patients.
Maybe it’s my Canadian roots that is preventing me from actually understanding why gun control is so difficult in this country - if there’s anyone one out there that knows where to start in terms of advocacy, please let me know and I’d like to help.
Waiting around for politicians to act without a huge social movement is most likely not going to be the solution.

We sweat whether it's too risky when the WBC is 15.1 and not 14.9. We study 40,000 children in order sort out who deserves the x-ray risk of a maybe brain tumor 30 years from now. We work in difficult, burnout inducing conditions so that we can personally save, say, one life a year.
