My last posting came out all distorted, so I will try again:
I have been asked to provide evidence that Electronic Charge Capture, generated by our EHR EPIC, when compared to expert coders, will not only create more work for emergency physicians but will lead to a significant decrease in net revenue.
Since self billing/coding vs. expert billing/coding is a rather "old topic" in emergency medicine, I am having some difficulty in finding PEER reviewed articles supporting my position that expert coders are the most cost efficient way to code and bill in our field.
Does anyone have any articles specifically addressing this "old issue"? and/or
Does anyone have experiences with electronic charge capture in EPIC that you might be willing to share?
