Thanks, Duncan. It looks like it's been just over a year since I abandoned this method for loading texts, so I don't have any current examples. I think we were on version 3.0 or 3.1 at the time and there have been a ton of bug fixes since then so it's entirely possible I would not see now what I encountered when I was just starting out. I don't think I even knew how to find exist.log at the time, so there may well have been clues that I never investigated.

I have done so on occasion, but it can be pretty hard for a newbie to distill an actionable reproducer from a complex app that's misbehaving.
