I hestitate to extend this tangential discussion but do so as a former offending
user of a "vacation" program who has found a way to be more gracious in using it
while participating in LISTSERV communities. For those who receive their EMail
on UNIX systems, there is a program called "procmail", written by Stephen R. van
den Berg at RWTH-Aachen, Germany, which allows one to write an if-then rule base
for handling incoming messages. Among other useful things, it's easy to keep
TEI-L messages from passing through "vacation". Contact van den berg for
information about obtaining procmail ([log in to unmask]) or
I'll try to help.
