While tagging an OLd Icelandic text morphologically I came across
the following problem:
OI manuscripts sometimes use a single graph for a combination
of two phonemes, so is capital R used for geminated r and z
for ts. This sometimes happens also when two words are contracted
to one. So we find both
þeir ero, þeirro and þeiRo
þat es, þats and þaz
Whereas I would mark the first type of contraction as:
þeir<...>ro<...> and þat<...>s<...>
I do not know how to handle the second type.
Is there a way to handle this in TEI; I must confess that I
did not yet read all of the Guidelines.
I appreciate any help and hints.
