I am surprised to see that in this discussion on closure of foot lacerations
that most people seem to be opting for local (very painful) infiltration for
anaesthesia. Posterior tibial nerve block is a technically easy, very
reliable method. With the child lying prone and distracted by parent or
nurse you can then explore and suture deep wounds on the sole of the foot
with everybody relaxed. In comparison I would suggest that local
infiltration is by far the more "drastic alternative".
