Emergency Medicine Pediatrician/Physician
The Salvation Army Grace Maternity Hospital and the Izaak Walton Killam
Children's Hospital are amalgamating to form an integrated system of care
for women, children and families of the Maritimes. The IWK~Grace Health
Centre is a primary medical centre for the metropolitan area of Halifax
and a tertiary referral centre for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince
Edward Island (population 1.5 million). The Health Centre is a recognized
teaching and research centre affiliated with Dalhousie University.
Regular and locum tenens appointments exist in our 24-hour Pediatric
Emergency Department. The Emergency Department has an annual census of
32,000 unselected visits per year and serves as the Pediatric Trauma
Centre for the metropolitan Halifax area (pop 350,000). The Poison
Information Centre for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island is housed and
supported by the Emergency Department.
The emergency Medical staff have clinical appointments through the
Department of Pediatrics and the Division of Emergency Medicine of
Dalhousie University. Undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
are integral components of the position, including the clinical
supervision of undergraduate students and residents rotating through the ED.
The Department plays an active role in a variety of clinical research
projects. The Department is also in the process of developing a
Fellowship training program in Emergency Pediatrics.
Preference will be given to Royal College Certificants in Pediatrics with
post residency training in Emergency Pediatrics.
