I can't answer your question but would like to call attention tho
the HCFA guidelines for reimbursement. My understanding is that Medicare
now stipulates that the person receiving reimbursement for interpretation
must read the film at a time when it impacts on patient care decisions
and write the report. With those guidelines neither the ED staff at St.
Christopher's (who do not issue a report) nor the radiologists (whose reading
of after hours films the next morning does not influence patient care)
would be able to bill for interpretation. This issue, and its implications
for the future (when the rest of the insurers adopt these rules) may help
you convince the hospital and radiologists to invest in teleradiology.
The hospital may otherwise be at risk for fines a la U of Pennsylvania.

Radiology over billing for interpretation, and how many have won, lost or
