I have received many responses to the dilemma of which path to follow.
I have learned that a person dually boarded in Peds and EM will NO
LONGER be eligible to sit for the Peds EM boards. Also, the decision
seems to boil down to one thing: Can I tolerate adult medicine as
a means to the same training endpoint with a much greater market
value and job opportunity?
My questions are these??
1. In "the future" will someone trained in Peds and EM, but not
board certified in Peds EM, be able to return to a childrens hospital
for a job or will they be limited only to large centers that see both
adults and children in their emergency department?
2. What is the current attitude towards funding someone for a 2nd
residency? Will this be a barrier?
Thank you for your ideas
