Thanks to all participants in last two weeks of discussions of this issue.
I have learned a lot.
Here are my conclusions.
Our society ( and our lawyers) demand that everyone, regardless ability to
pay receive the same health care as the President of the U.S.- MRI scan in
every Hospital, hip replacement instead of Motrin ,liver transplant
regardless of self-destructive behavior and so forth. Double Boarded
physicians to be available 24 hours a day in the ER to solve practically
everything from major trauma to ingrown toenails. If there is not a
perfect outcome, we can sue the Physicians and Hospitals and devastate
them financially. We want gene therapy and laparoscopic surgery.
We want a cure ( and right now) for every disease and ailment.
However, we do not want to pay for these services, "health care cost are
excalating" and we need to save money.
We will get what we are willing to pay for.
I can see us re-sterilize glass syringes and needles( anybody remember??)
restrict care, go on clinical pathways , save money and compromise quality
before it will change into better. The advantages of our country and our
system are that it takes only 1 decade to change things compared to other
parts of the world where it takes several generations.
I never thought I will live to see the Berlin Wall come down. I hope I
will see managed care go out of business.
