We did a study comparing the Cook Diekman IO needle vs Monoject Jamshidi
marrow needles for ease of insertion. The Jamshidi needle was much easier
to insert for pediatric housestaff and paramedics using a turkey femur
model. The Jamshidi needles are substantially cheaper than the Cook
needles. This is one instance where cheaper is better. This study is
scheduled for publication in Am J Emerg Med late this year.
