I am wondering if there is anybody out there who is still practicing
clinical medicine versus the mental
masturbation propagated by Dr.Louzon.
I make my judgment based on the clinical picture and not rigid guidelines.
Not everybody needs a tap if they have fever, headache and vomiting. If the
tap reveals a few wbc, normal gram stain and the patient looks well they
can go home even if they have viral meningitis. Anybody who appears sick
needs to be admitted regardless of the tap. Many kids may have viral
meningitis and are sent home without having a tap.
Defensive medicine is no good medicine. We should not tap everybody with a
fever and headache. We should not admit anybody based on the lab results.
Soon physicians will be replaced by pathways, computer programs and "health
care providers". Will this result in better health care? No. Will this
result in less lawsuits? No. Will this cost more money? Yes.
I want to take my children to see a doctor. I do not want my children to
have a tap or admission when they do not need it.
Can we make mistakes while practicing clinical medicine? Yes. Are we
perfect and without mistakes while practicing defensive dogmatic medicine?
I will make my decisions based on the clinical picture and not the labs.
