SUBJECT: Author and Editor Recruitment for Internet Online Textbooks
Imagine a textbook that can be improved or updated 24 hours a day, 365 days
a year. Further, imagine a textbook that allows unlimited color
illustrations, x-rays and even includes audio and video. Imagine a
textbook that allows the reader to instantly send comments, questions, and
potential new pictorial additions to the topic author. Also, imagine a
text that is connected to federal and private data bank search services
such as Medline for additional research while using the text.
Welcome to the newest, most up-to-date textbooks in Medicine!
How does it work? Academic authors are being asked to write on one or two
topics. The topic is written in a preset format on the Internet using an
online authoring tool created for this purpose. Once the topic is
completed, authors, using a coded access, will be allowed to update their
topic at anytime, day or night. Fifty to one hundred editors will be
involved in review of each text.
How much will it cost? All physicians, medical students, nurses, and other
health care professionals throughout the world will be able to access the
books on the Internet free-of-charge.
What do I have to do to become an author? Authors are recruited online.
Please go to www.emedicine.com and select AUTHOR RECRUITMENT.
What do I have to do to become an editor? Each editor will be assigned to
approximately 20 topics. Please e-mail a copy of your curriculum vitae to
the appropriate editor listed below.

What will this do for me? Although we cannot guarantee an honorarium at
this time, given enough private company sponsorship, we hope to pay at
least a $100.00 honorarium for authors and $1000.00 for editors. Of
course, what you really get is the opportunity to help your colleagues,
medical students, and other professionals throughout the world have an
extensive, up-to-date, on-line text that will be a valuable reference and
Who developed this project? The software for this project was developed
over the last two years by Jeff Berezin, M.S., Scott H. Plantz, M.D., and
Jon Adler, M.D. The project is sponsored by Emedicine, Inc., a physician
owned company dedicated to providing free medical textbooks to the entire
world. A textbook in Emergency Medicine has already been written and can be
viewed at www.emedicine.com.
Thank you for your participation in this exciting project!
