In our institution, delay in operating is usually dependent on the surgeon
attending that night..
We do have resident and even pediatric surgical fellows in house but still
it is not uncommon to have an appy wait till AM to be taken to the OR..
If it is ruptured, the surgeons admit, give antibiotics and then after a
week have the patient return in 6 weeks for debridement and removal..
