With the list of aetiological agents in meningitis in the under one
monther being long:
gram negative bacilli
group B strep
and the odd case of pneumococcus
what is the best empirical regime?
ampicillin and an aminoglycoside?
what about the relatively poor CSF penetration?
ampicillin and a 3rd generation cephalosporin
for better CSF coverage but what about the rare but definitely possible
case of pneumococcus, with emerging resistance?
how about vancomycin and a 3rd generation ceph?
seems to cover it all??
and at what age does Listeria cease to become a starter?
3/12 , 6/12??
