Hate to rain on anyone's parade but what about this new product
levalbuterol. The company has supplied literature that suggests the S isomer
of albuterol has deleterious effects and in fact may be the reason that
increasing aerosol use has been associated with increased asthma
hospitalizations and mortality.
At this time the levalbuterol is available in single use dosages already
diluted with saline to 3 cc.. ( 0.63 mg levalbuterol equivalent to 1.25 mg
racemic) . SO for those who want to goto MDI use, , where do you think
levalbuterol should be in the armenmatarium?
The allergist who presented a teleconference for Sepacor on levalbuterol
suggested that switching to this product made more sense and that the
patients would really fare much better. as there would be no S isomer.
Of course that means we are stuck with nebs if we switch over to this
product. On the other hand it did seem more effective in the study the drug
