To those who are interested,
I have added two new guidemaps to my website at
The first guidemap is called "head injury" and focuses briefly on the
major points underlying the management of severe head injury with a
lesser focus on minor head injury. I have included in the appendix
section a brief outline of the RSI technique that is used in severe head
injury patients and simple information on how to sedate a patient in
order to successfully perform a head CT scan.
My second head injury guidemap is labelled "concussion" and mainly deals
with minor head injury. There is significant duplication of material
between these two head injury guidemaps. The "concussion" guidemap
mainly discusses the definition of concussion, suggests some clinical
indications for performing a CT scan in minor head injury patients and
also includes return-to-sport guidelines.
Both guidemaps are written for neophyte ED physicians, and I would
appreciate feedback from experienced ED physicians (via private E-mail
communication or via this discussion group) on how to make to my
guidemaps more clinically useful and more clinically accurate.
