The Hataso have a technology level roughly equal to that of America in 1980, but are ahead of us in several important ways. Their computers are somewhat better, but mass production does nto exist, and property is communal, so there really is no such thing as a "personal computer." They've gone a little farther than we have in the field of nanotechnology, but not much farther. Genetic research is about ten or twenty years in advance of us. Transportation consists of self-propelled vehicles (like bikes), and dirigibles, as well as sail boats. They have something like television, but no concept of "television shows". The idea of watching distant performers on a box in your house doesn't appeal to most Hataso. The Hataso also have developed nuclear fision, but refused to use it, waiting instead until they discovered cold fusion.
