Most of the time when Japanese "suru" is used with a noun, I think it kind
of verbifies it, cf "denwa" telephone -> "denwa suru" to telephone. The verb
is conjugated just like suru as in:

Michiko         o               denwa-shimashita
michiko(a name) object  telephone-do-PST

But then again, you can't do that with the Japanese copula...
