?????  Isn't it?  I think you could look in the NYC phone book for anyone
with the initials F. X. (whatever, tho preferably Anglo, not Cohen or Levy),
call them up and ask how they pronounce their middle name.  Xavier
University?

It's true that the Misión San Xavier near Tucson AZ (when we visited it in
1941) was called [sćn@'vIr] by the locals.  That's sort of close to the
Spanish.
