Another innovative idea is to use a non-orange Pumpkin...how does white
sound?

The Delaware "Pumpkin Chunkers" use white pumpkins in their competition,
supposedly because they have been found to have superior structural
rigidity.  Here's a photo:

As to _why_ they care about a pumpkin's structural rigidity...well, their
World Competition is the weekend after this one, in Millsboro, Delaware.
All can be "explained" (and illustrated!) at their website.  Make sure to
