This link seems to point to Portuguese rather than
Spanish for the roots of Papiamentu. As a speaker
of both I am more than convinced that it is rather
a dialect of Spanish and not Portuguese, but the
roots may have indeed stemmed from Portuguese
and then heavily influenced by Spanish...
