        If the "space ether" is liquid hydrogen and the physical (and chemical) laws
are similar, then the whole universe ought to be one huge flaming ball!
        Also, if there is a strong enough pull towards the center of the universe,
than the physical laws of that universe are *NOT* anything remotely like
ours. At this point, you basically have complete fiat. You can say that your
discworld rests on the backs of four elephants that are being carried on the
back of a giant turtle, and we'd all go, "Sure, ok, whatever you say."
Physics discussions, alas, are out of the question.
