I don't think any explaination has be presented in the show. The word
was introduced early on: Teal'c talks about the origin of the hosts
(e.g. humans), and uses the word, and then is informed that we believe
Earth to be the place of origin that he was discussing. It /may/ have
been "Emancipation", but definitely in the first six episodes. My
daughter and I are currently re-watching (at least in my case, some she
hasn't seen) the entire series and since we started this week, that's as
far as we've gotten...and I remember noting the conversation, but not
which episode.

My guess is that either it's G'ould/Tok'ra (whatever their language is
called, which I don't recall being mentioned) word for the original
species, or at least was originally. Or, possibly it's an Asgard (or
their friends) word...depending on who _really_ was there first. :)

I'll try to keep an eye out for it as we continue to watch the show, it
might be interesting find if there is at least a theory of the origin of
the word.

I often have mixed feelings about the language bits in Stargate
SG-1...often, language barriers seem too easily overcome. :)
