One of my early conlangs, Kizval, had a regular process of vowel
reduction (and eventual deletion) in its protolanguage. Causatives in
the proto-language were formed by a simple stress shift, but with the
reduction and deletion, and various assimilation effects, this meant
that the relationship between verbs and their causative forms were
usually opaque.

In my provisional Tivets, a descendant of Uatakassi, there are a number
of vowel reductions related to stress. Stress in Uatakassi is on the
penultimate mora, which means that suffixes generally change the stress,
causing vocalic changes in the root.
