I should have mentioned that the current year on Cindu is 754 New Count; New Count began at the end of 2703 Old Count, the result of decisions made in the post-nuclear war (2701) settlement. Thus the nuclear war occurred about 1000 of our years ago, at which time the tech. level was approx. equal to our 1950s. Recovery was slow, certainly in part because of Kash distrust of the Gwr's unbridled love of technological change; so now, the tech. level on Cindu is ahead of ours in some respects, behind in others-- we might view the place as sort-of "shabby first-world" (Pablo Flores' lovely phrase). For figuring modern date and time, I arbitrary assume that my birthday 0000hr, 5/23/34 = 0000hr, 1.1.702. The Old Count was based mainly on Gwr recorded history; for a long time the various Kash peoples used a variety of systems; but in 2427 (4573 Gwr octal) (a) the main Gwr nations began to adopt the Kash's decimal system and (b) the main Kash nations adopted the Gwr calendar. Prior to year 1 Old Count, other calendars had of course been in use, probably based on dynasties, or maybe founding of cities/nations, legendary events etc.
