It's not goofy at all. :-)
How do you handle adverbs which do not refer to an event but to the subject of that event? For example: "She nicely combs her hair.". There are two (maybe contrary) meanings hidden in this simple clause:

(1) As the one combing her hair, she is nice.
(2) She performs nice combing of her hair.

That's my input for now. I hope it is somehow inspiring... :-)
