You have those backwards. 'Mac'/'Mc' is 'son of', 'Nic' is 'daughter
of', '' means '(male) descendent of', and 'N' mean '(female)
descendent of'. 'Mc' is only used in anglicisations of Irish names, and
even then is only an abbreviation of 'Mac'.
