FWIW, this does not work with the listserv interface. I get a link to
"http://www.example.com/%3E,", with the closing angle bracket and any other
stuff not separated by a space interpreted as a part of the URL.

Hmm, here's to test whether a realllly long address still remains unbroken
with that treatment, tho:
<URL:http://www.subdomainwithalongname.example.de.org/webstorage/bogusdirectory/virtualdocument.php?document_id=1773419&viewall=true&session_id=10452883572>
