What do you mean "just" an idiom? As far as I can tell, "me da X",
where X is an adjective, is a semi-productive construct in modern
colloquial Spanish, but one whose meaning is not always apparent.
E.g. "me da feliz" = "makes me happy", "me da triste" = "makes me
sad"; but "me da igual" = "it's all the same to me"/"whatever"/"don't
care", which is different from "makes me equal".
