Yes, I thought of that, but:

1. I am documenting an extension to the TEI therefore I have elements  
coming from different namespaces so it would be nice to be able to  
clearly distinguish them.

2. I do have xml:id also in my local namespace and this gives an error  
as well

At present I have solved the problem in the XSLT, meaning that in the  
XML I just use @id but the xslt inserts a xml: prefix in front, which  
is less than ideal because it only satisfy the presentation and not  
the documentation purpose.
