Ok. 

I think for our use the best is cas 1), as these phenomenaare not that 
frequent. And then the need seems to be a rather "loose" critical 
commentary. Indeed case 2) seems to be the most systematic and "machine 
operable" if you really need to compare things which can be formalized...

Case 3 seems in my beginner's point of view to chase its tail but sly... 
but that's all I can say.
