PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE DIRECTOR
 PORTLAND, OREGON

The Pacific Northwest's largest democratic emergency medicine group and
its partner system, Portland based Legacy Health, are seeking a system
director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Primary leadership
responsibilities are at the rapidly growing 20,000+ visit-per-year
Children's Hospital ED located in downtown Portland where construction
has begun on a separate 9 story children's hospital with 22 bed ED, and
at the Salmon Creek Hospital Children's ED located 20 minutes north in
suburban Vancouver, Washington. In addition, the PEM director is
responsible for education and quality at 2 other suburban Legacy Health
hospitals.

The Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel is the busiest pediatric
facility in the state. It is a tertiary care facility with the most ED,
inpatient, and PICU admissions coupled with a culture that melds cutting
edge quality with total commitment to customer service and family
centered care. Its ED has grown about 17% in 2 years and the opening of
the new children's hospital in summer 2011 is expected to double that
growth rate initially. The Children's Hospital ED at Legacy Emanuel
also trains emergency medicine residents and has just begun its
ACGME-accredited, jointly sponsored (with Oregon Health & Science
University) fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Salmon Creek Medical Center is a 4 year-old, state-of-the-art, fully
paperless, green-built, general hospital with an spectacular
family-centered inpatient peds unit with 24/7 hospitalists and with a
separate pediatric ED staffed with dedicated peds ED nurses.

Northwest Acute Care Specialists (NACS) is excited to expand its
pediatric division to meet the needs of a separate children's hospital
and will be adding 5 or more additional PEM BCBE physicians over the
next 2 years leading up to the opening of the new hospital. NACS has an
exclusive contract for emergency services across the entire 6-hospital
Legacy Health system, and partners closely with the administration and
medical leadership of the children's hospital to provide quality-driven
emergency care for kids. NACS offers regionally competitive
compensation for clinical work along with an extremely generous
administrative stipend, retirement, and other benefits. Malpractice is
provided by the hospital system.

The successful candidate for this leadership position, in both Northwest
Acute Care Specialists and The Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel,
will bring extensive experience in pediatric emergency medicine practice
(especially in the non-academic setting) and leadership skills that
embrace team-work and a patient-focused culture. Experience in
physician recruiting, program development, and children's hospital
organization is expected as is board certification in pediatric
emergency medicine.
