Hmm-- in my Cindu/Kash back-story, I don't use Le Guin's _Ekumen_ for my Galactic Unity, but I do refer to the Hainish people. But I think, aside from Le Guin, I've seen the Hainish mentioned in other writers' works...or am I mistaken??
