Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician

The Division of Emergency & Urgent Care at Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics (CMHC) is seeking board certified/eligible pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians interested in joining our team of over 30 accomplished PEM faculty with varied clinical and scholarly interests. This position will include clinical care at both our urban and suburban emergency departments (EDs) as well as opportunities for teaching, research and advocacy.

Education: We provide education to: our PEM and child abuse fellows; pediatric, medicine/pediatric, emergency medicine, and family medicine residents; and medical students, as well as CME offerings. Our PEM fellowship program was one of the first in the country, and is a cornerstone of our Division. Our faculty members have been recognized, individually and collectively, with multiple teaching awards.

Scholarship: PEM faculty and fellows have a long tradition of scholarly excellence and productivity. Areas of special interest, often collaborative, include: quality & safety improvement; social determinants of health, including intimate partner violence, teen sexual health, and the effects of violence on families and children; simulation; ethics; injury prevention; and child abuse.

Clinical Excellence: CMHC is the only level 1 pediatric ED and level 1 pediatric trauma center in a 150-county region in Missouri and Kansas. There are over 110,000 annual visits to our two locations. Our recently expanded urban ED includes 39 exam rooms, with multiple trauma rooms and in-suite radiology/CT. We offer a "fast-track" area staffed by nurse practitioners and a unique ED-based clinic designed to improve the care of children with abscesses, including optimal sedation/analgesia. Support services include a critical care transport team, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists, communications specialists, and respiratory therapists. Winning Culture: Our culture is one of collaboration, teamwork, and excellence. PEM faculty members are local, national, and international professional leaders, and are respected hospital leaders. We work closely with nursing and other partners in clinical, research, quality, advocacy, and leadership areas.

A Growing Healthcare System: CMHC is one of the country's premiere free-standing, independent pediatric medical centers, with more than 40 pediatric subspecialties. CMHC has been recognized by US News and World Report in all the relevant specialties for the past decade, as well as having achieved Magnet designation for excellence in nursing. In 2012, we launched the Pediatric Care Network, a managed care system serving over 112,000 children in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Our active and innovative Quality & Clinical Safety Department is also gaining national attention. We continue to expand our institutional research capacity and capabilities, working with colleagues at UMKC, University of Kansas and the Stower's Institute.

Academic appointments, commensurate with experience, are through the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). EOE/AAP
