Since most of the MOC activities count for both PEM and gen peds, the only additional effort to maintain the gen peds certification is the examination. I just recertified for the second time, and was relieved to have passed. It keeps my career options open, and makes me feel a little better about the general pediatrics I teach residents and students daily. There are a great deal of general pediatric issues I deal with in the ED that are not routinely addressed by the PEM boards.
