Hi,

Given the sentence, "Tom heard and saw the dog," I analyze it as being 2 clauses with "Tom" the subject of both and "the dog" the object of both:
Tom(i) heard 0(j) and 0(i) saw the dog(j).

I understand that 0(i) is a pivot, but what's 0(j)? Also, is it an English peculiarity? What other languages do something like that? TIA.
