 Course Description:

 This 1 day introductory course will cover the basic and more specialized

 uses of ultrasonography in the pediatric emergency department.  Lectures

 will cover main emergency medicine applications including the FAST exam,

 gallbladder, soft tissue, pelvic and lung, as well as those specific to the

 pediatric patient, such as intussusception and pyloric stenosis.  Each

 participant will perform more than 2 hours of hands-on scanning with live

 and training models. There will also be a workshop covering ultrasound

 guided vascular access.

 Course Objectives:

 At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

 ● Discuss basic sound wave physics and the function of key ultrasound

 machine controls.

 ●Describe techniques required to perform a focused emergency ultrasound

 on a pediatric patient.

 ● Utilize emergency ultrasound to diagnose selected pediatric conditions.

 ● Describe the sonographic findings in patients with selected pediatric

 diseases.

 ● Perform ultrasound-guided peripheral and central venous access.

 Target Audience:

 This course is designed to meet the needs of pediatric emergency medicine

fellows and attendings with an interest in developing their skills with

 bedside ultrasonography.  This course is structured to appeal to beginners

 with some advanced topics discussed as well.
