Since RVU are often tied to the number of tests ordered and the physician personal RVU score is often tied to the physician compensation there is a clear interest in ordering more test...which are sometimes no indicated at the expense of good physical and history...
Oh , the good old days...
but at least our compensation is not tied to how many consults we request... ( for the time being...)

Hence the ridiculous way we now practice medicine. Patient outcome, or safety are no longer priorities. Pt satisfaction and metrics drive our days. The incentive for not ordering unnecessary tests and taking time to teach pts is not encouraged or commended. It's not even in the equation. Next, please.

These are only a representation of process issues derived from operating within a given type of community and do not take into account the actions of Healthcare consumers on these metrics. Rather, the elements of teamwork, percentage of experienced team members and solid research/academics must also be present in order to produce a verifiable body of research literature and outcomes to which other such departments can make reference and implement in their own institutions. What good is an institution that looks good on paper, but no one wants to work there?
