That started in the USA in the 1940's: earlier the association was not
made, or made the other way round!

Some reactions to colour are innate, which is why you wouldn't use red
paint on the walls of a doctor's waiting room. But detailed
interpretation is cultural: red for danger in the West, for masculinity
in Ancient Egypt, for courage and success in China.
