        To me the idea that your practice (excuse the word) "guidelines"
would prevent you from performing nasogastric decompression but encourage
surgical airway management in pediatric patients appears troublesome.  Rather
than expending training resources on an extremely rare procedure (i.e. crico-
thyrotomy), consider training in placement of nasogastric tubes.  This \
procedure appears to have less risk of complications and more potential
benefits for patients than the old esophageal obturator airway (a technique
taught to many EMTs in the past - and hopefully never again).
