Just a word of caution from several personal incidents regarding securing
tubes. While using umbilical string/tape or twill tape is a great way to
secure an endo. tube in an adult , it is not always the best way to secure
in a child. In a kid who is not immobilized ( and even in some who are),
there can be enough movement of the neck to cause the child to lengthen his
airway enough to lose the tube if it is secured around the neck. There is
less movement if the tube is secured to the lip.
