Isto scribeva Don Harlowe de Gilbert:
>About the author, Manders writes in his introduction:
>
>"Gilbert drove the Occidental make [referring to an automobile metaphor
>from a previous paragraph. -- DH] for almost 20 years. In 1932, at the age
>of 20, he began to learn Esperanto, but at the same time he got to know an
>Occidentalist who succeeded in convincing him about Occidental's
>superiority. After a few lessons he bid Esperanto farewell and became an
>enthusiastic supporter of von Wahl's language. He was especially attracted
>by the natural appearance and the great similarity to his mother tongue.
>For him, as a Frenchman, Occidental seemed not only more modern, but also
>simpler than Esperanto. He founded a group (which quickly dissolved), wrote
>articles for "Cosmoglotta" [maybe Bob has stumbled over some of them. --
>DH], chief and official organ of the Occidental movement, and was active in
>every way. In 1948 he was elected "senator" in the Occidental Union, but
>just at that time he became skeptical of the correctness of the
>naturalistic principles, which he defended and propagandized for so long.
>He studied Interlingua, IALA's new project (see chap. 5) and became
>disillusioned when he realized that it was even more naturalistic than
>Occidental. And while several eminences of the Occidental movement crossed
>to IALA's new language, Gilbert followed the opposite route and began to
>study Esperanto seriously. In 1950 he made a decisive step and joined
>Zamenhof's language. He finally understood that Occidental, despite many
>admirable qualities, might be suitable only as a common language for
>Westerners, and that Esperanto, so sharply criticized by the
>Occidentalists, was in many ways superior and preferable as a means of
>global communication." (p. 10)
>
>The book concentrates primarily on Occidental and Interlingua. Ido is
>disposed of in short order (chap. 3); it is not included in the Occ/Int
>comparative grammatical table at the end of the book (pp. 78-95).

Ante multe tempore io legeva le libro, como io ha describite. In un senso
