I just found this on the Web.  It is in a book by Sylvan Zaft, under the
heading "A Major Difficulty of Esperanto" (Zaft is apparently an Espist):

There is one feature of Esperanto which creates a considerable learning
load for many students. They have to spend some time practicing the use of
the ending n which is often referred to as "the accusative ending."
 
The n ending has three uses in Esperanto.

The chapter then goes on to explain, at some length, the three divergent
uses of the -n ending.
