If I'm trying to get away without providing systemic sedation/anesthesia for
a head CT in an infant, I try coating the infant's pacifier with sugar.
Seems to have a great calming effect on them and they seem much more likely
to hold their head still while in the scanner. (One of my "tricks of the
trade")

Just as an aside - how do members of the list sedate small children for CT
head. My practice has been general anaesthetic or nothing. Thus when
calculating risks I have to factor in the risk of sedation/anaesthesia.
